Swish sway
Spin swirl
She went away
A little girl
Dancing through hearts
Twirling for crowds
Sailing through minds
With a tune so loud
With pointed toes
And delicate hands
With graceful steps
She takes over the land
Through nations galore
She woos the world
Trotting across grand halls
Just a little girl
Igniting joy
Laughter and thrill
Every young lad
With hope, she fills
But one day
At some time
After so many years
The clock chimes
Its time to go
The dance must end
A round of applause
And away she went

Note:
Anna Pavlova inspired this poem- Anna Pavlova, (born January 31 [February 12, New Style], 1881, St. Petersburg, Russia—died January 23, 1931, The Hague, Netherlands), Russian ballerina, the most-celebrated dancer of her time. She died as a result of pneumonia. I wrote this poem after reading a short story-book: Swan- The life and dance of Anna Pavlova by Laurel Snyder
So beautifully written Jyoti! Love the simple tone and yet so impactful.
Lovely poem to immortalize the memory of Anna Pavlova.
Well written Jo. I didn’t know about Anna until now. Thank you for teaching me!
