The Music Festival

The air ripens with the bustling chatter and pleasantly deafening squeals of teenagers rushing through the majestic archway sprawled with opalescent crimped streamers. A meandering cobbled pathway squeezes itself through rows of stalls selling all sorts of paraphernalia. Groups of a variety of shoes scuffle through the seemingly eternal line. Moccasins, slippers, sneakers, sandals galore. Jet black, cream-white, cherry-red adorned with ember-blue stripes, straps and streaks rapidly bounce up and down in excitement. The pompous sun dances gleefully in the open sky, shooting down beams of light. Rays of golden light exuberantly jig around as they reflect off of innumerable mirror chips bestrewn on the extravagant outfit of a young girl standing in front of me. A fragrance redolent of lavender perfume swirls up my nose.

The fresh, toasty aroma of crisp marshmallows sifts through the dense air as the crowd hurriedly disperses across the stadium to grab some goodies for their rumbling stomachs. A group of tall girls dressed in meagre black nets and deep mulberry lipstick saunter past me with wooden sticks as lean as them topped with petal-pink and lemon-yellow fluffy clouds. Squishing myself through boisterous herds of people, I approach a quaint stall surrounded by lurid balloons- swelling with helium as they bump into one another in the gentle kiss of the breeze. Just as I am about to bite into a skimpy French fry dusted in an overload of salt, a catchy beat startles me. It calls out to the vibrantly dressed army of people rushing towards the front of the stage to assemble themselves and hold their breaths in suspense.

A glass-shattering squeal echoes through the thronged stadium.

The lights dim. A silhouette of a rockstar approaches centre stage. The melodic strings of a guitar vibrate, emanating an electrifying sound that rejuvenates the crowd. Gaudy lime greens, sunshine-yellows, ceruleans and scarlets flicker on with a gleaming glow and illuminate the dingy ground beneath excessively noisy troupes of fans. The smashing and clashing of the drums blend harmoniously with sharply pitched guitar notes. Together the instruments produce music that swirls with treble and punches with bass. An upbeat rhythm tickles my ears and elucidates tones exploding with colour and palpable energy.

At the base of the stage, shrill, incessant crow squawks fill the shadowed crowd with discord and chaos. The stage lights up with hair springing up like fire, a voice that trickles like a flowing river and dance moves as swift as the zephyrs of the dimming evening.
